GRAND OLE OPRY CELEBRATES THE WHITES MILESTONE MARCH 1ST ANNIVERSARY
NASHVILLE, Tenn. (February 27, 2019) The Grand Ole Opry® presented by Humana® is slated to celebrate more than 100 years of milestone Opry member anniversaries in early March, including beloved and longtime Opry members The Whites (35th Anniversary).
The Whites will celebrate their 35th Anniversary as Grand Ole Opry members when they perform on the Opry this Friday, March 1. They were inducted in the family on March 2, 1984. Daddy Buck and daughters Cheryl and Sharon have been showcasing their family harmonies as a professional stage act for more than 40 years. Among others on Friday’s show include Brad Paisley, Ricky Skaggs, and Marty Stuart.
About The Whites: One of Country music’s finest and most beloved family harmony groups, The Whites, have enjoyed a prolific music career which has spanned across the past four decades. Buck White (vocals, piano, mandolin), Sharon (vocals, guitar) and Cheryl (vocals, bass) officially comprise the group which originally started out as a Bluegrass group, but the family trio became well known for their string of Country hits in the 1980s. The band gained traction when Emmylou Harris brought them in to sing on her album Blue Kentucky Girl. Some of the trio’s hits include “Hangin’ Around,” “Give Me Back That Old Familiar Feeling,” and “Pins and Needles,” all of which were produced by Sharon’s husband, Ricky Skaggs, culminating in their induction as Opry members in 1984. The Whites are Grand Ole Opry favorites and combine a respect for – and mastery of – traditional country and bluegrass with a refreshing style in each of their performances. They were involved in the 2001 hit movie and soundtrack, O Brother, Where Art Thou?, and have gone on to win multiple awards, including GRAMMY, CMA and Dove Awards, among others. In addition to The Whites scheduled dates, Sharon was a headliner in the critically acclaimed “Cooder-White-Skaggs” tour with Ry Cooder and Ricky Skaggs. Her father Buck and sister Cheryl also performed on the CWS tour, adding Buck’s legendary piano riffs and Cheryl’s rich harmony vocals to each remarkable show.
